Imagining a “Living Lab” for the Mountain.

The morning was cold but the vibes were warm when thirty Scenic Rim residents got together at the Making Good Alliance (MGA) premises on Knoll Road, North Tamborine, on Saturday 11th June. Stimulated by the screening of “Regenerating Australia”, the inspirational new short film by renowned film-maker Damon Gameau, the participants pooled their knowledge, offered their ideas and imagined how the site could best be transformed into a “living lab” for regeneration and climate resilience.

The locals were guided in their lively discussions and creative suggestions by a team of five architecture students from Griffith University. Starting with the big picture of our mountain’s opportunities and challenges, by the end of the morning the group had generated a set of innovative – and practical – draft plans to help inform a masterplan for the site.

Students from Griffith University Film School recorded much of the event and interviewed some of the participants for a short film they will produce to promote the MGA Living Lab.

Watch the space on Knoll Rd as MGA’s Living Lab begins to take shape, and check out the program of workshops, screenings, conversations and residencies to be offered there.

This is an exciting endeavour that promises to be a vibrant hub for learning about how we can be more resilient as a community and take action to protect and enhance our natural and social environments.
